"In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin; but he that refraineth his lips is wise. The tongue of the just is as choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom."-Proverbs 10:19-21
So here's a question: Do you have a smart mouth? It's okay to answer yes to this question. Do you have issues controlling your mouth? Do you have to be RIGHT all the time? Again it's okay to answer yes to any of these questions.
Whether you want to admit it or not, your mouth can get you into a lot of trouble. It can cause lots of chaos even if that's not your intent. It can start arguments, it can make a person angry, it can make a person cry. It can cause a person mental distress. A smart mouth can also make you look like a fool even if you're correct (according to your own understanding.) In fact it speaks this in Proverbs 18:2: "A fool hath no delight in understanding, but his heart may discover itself."
In other words, you dont' want to hear anything unless it aligns up with what YOU want. Face it, we all get like this from time to time. We want to be right. We want to be heard. But understand that your mouth Sis, will get you into more trouble than you bargained for. If you don't want to be labled foolish, you have to get a control on your mouth. You have to understand that you don't have to say everything that's on your mind. I know it sounds easier said than done, but when you come to that understanding, it makes a world of difference in how you get along with others.
You have to learn to practice self control. When you do so it will help in controlling your mouth. Let's check out what it says in James about this. James 1:19 says :"Wherefore, my beloved brethern, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath." So if you apply this scripture, it will not only save you from an argument, but you may actually get your way...maybe. It may not get you your way, but it can get a compromise of some sort depending on what the topic is in question.
For day 1
Meditate on the scriptures listed. Also take some time to pray about your weakness in regards to your mouth. Ask the Most High to help you identify why you insist on speaking the way that you have and on how to change it going forward.
Ready for day 2? Let's go!
